Matthew Fernandez (Chiropractor & Exercise Physiologist)

With a background in swimming and surf life saving, Matt has been in private practice as a Chiropractor in Drummoyne since 2000. A lecturer and tutor in Patient Management (Rehabilitation) and Neurology at the Department of Health & Chiropractic at Macquarie University, Matt has published several articles in scientific journals and is a member of COCA and ESSA. He actively attends various seminars from a number of different professions. Matt's willingness to learn from others broadens his outlook and keeps him upto date.

As a qualified Exercise Physiologist, Matt incorporates his expertise in exercise prescription into the rehabilitation component of Chiropractic care. His other clinical interests include instrument soft tissue therapy, Impulse Adjusting, cranial therapy and dry needling. At present Matt works with the West Tigers Toyota Cup Under 20's side as their core strength and stability trainer. When not in practice, Matt participates in oz tag, ocean swimming, and waterpolo. Throughout the summer months he also volunteers his time teaching swimming skills and conditioning to surf life savers of all ages.

Alana Kearsley (Chiropractor)

Alana Kearsley has been in full-time practice for the past 5 years. Since graduating from Macquarie University with a Masters of Chiropractic she has worked in a number of practices in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Australia while gaining invaluable experience and mentoring.

  • Alana has a special clinical interest in treating families and especially in caring for babies and children and furthering her expertise has completed postgraduate studies in chiropractic paediatric care.
  • She attends educational seminars regularly to provide excellence in patient care supported by the latest evidence based research.
  • Alana has a keen interest in rehabilitation and has been a qualified fitness instructor for 8 years. She has also completed basic teacher training in pilates and has background in artistic gymnastics.
  • Alana is a member of the Chiropractors’ Association of Australia, General Chiropractic Council (UK) and the European Chiropractors’ Union.

Sharon Cheng (Chiropractor)

Sharon is the most recent addition to the Sports Lab team, graduating with a bachelor degree in Chiropractic Science and a Master in chiropractic degree from Macquarie University.

Sharon believes that good spinal alignment is vital for the proper function of the nervous system and muscular activity. By using a “full body approach” Sharon provides symptomatic relief and helps her patients achieve good body alignment to prevent future injury. Her treatment involves a thorough assessment, gentle chiropractic adjustments, soft tissue work, mobilizations and specific therapeutic stretches.

Sharon has a particular interest in women’s health, geriatrics and pediatrics care. She also attends numerous seminars each year to better serve her patients by furthering her education and staying up to date with current literature. Sharon was a volunteer at the Sydney World Masters games in 2009 where she provided chiropractic treatment to athletes all around the world and gained invaluable experience.  She is also a member of the CAA and is registered with the NSW Chiropractic Registration Board.

Being part of a multidisciplinary team, Sharon enjoys and works closely with physiotherapists, podiatrists, exercise physiologists and massage therapists in the Sports Lab team which means difficult cases can be ‘co-managed’ if necessary.

In her spare time, Sharon enjoys swimming, tennis, reading and painting.

Chiropractic diagramApart from her Chiropractic studies, Sharmayne has undergone intensive training in Deep Tissue Massage, Myofascial Release, Remedial and Sports injuries and massage, Rehabilitation, Chiropractic for pediatrics, Nutrition and Fitness Training.

Using a ‘whole body approach’ that combines various muscle and chiropractic techniques suited to the individual, Sharmayne focuses on reducing symptomatic pain, inflammation and improving joint movement, as well as maintaining optimum well being and prevention of symptoms later in life.

“One of my passions is to help people maintain their physical, mental and emotional balance as they travel through life. The optimal functioning of all our body systems, in particular our nervous system is greatly compromised by accumulated stress and tension. My treatments gently assist in removing nerve interference and optimizing energy flow throughout the body, moving us forward toward improved health and wellbeing and reaching our full potential.”

Sharmayne also specializes in treating pregnant women and babies and children.

As well as practicing at Sportslab, Sharmayne also works with the Sydney Swans Australian Football team as a Massage therapist and Chiropractor. She is a member of the CAA and COCA.
